SHADES (Painting Series), Ongoing, 2018 - PRESENT. “17 x 24” watercolor on paper.
These paintings are created through a layering process. Each successive layer covers the canvas slightly lower than the last, creating a subtle gradient built up many, many layers of watercolor paint. I place a piece of watercolor paper below each work as I create it. The collection of random drips stands in opposition to the highly controlled process used to make the pieces. I like the tension between what can and cannot be controlled.
